I thought this was really interesting to mention, because it shows how Africa's traditional culture is being lost. In South Africa, there are many official languages, but only one will get you anywhere in life: English. I was astounded when one of the women in the article said learning Zulu in school is only offered as an "extramural," which means that the children will probably never learn it. Think about it: when we were in middle school and high school, taking a language was often a pain for ourselves and many of our peers. So if it was only an elective, would we have taken that class?
Click here to see the article. It's very important to read, because it's something most people don't talk about. When thinking of Africa, we think of its rich tradition, but we may not think about how that tradition is being lost.
