This article seems like a very fitting thing to show you guys while we just finished learning about colonialism. One of the many rebellions occurred in Kenya by people known as Mau Mau Freedom Fighters. It's a rebellion that resulted in the brutal torture of captured rebels by the British. Three of these people are now trying to fight for retribution from the British for what they have said were rapes, castrations and brutal beatings they suffered while captured. The British are planning on fighting this, perhaps because they have a history of portraying themselves as respectful imperialists. Obviously it wasn't always handled in a manner befitting their portrayal. Click here to read more about it. Also, there is a very good movie called "The First Grader" you should try to watch, maybe on Netflix or some other instant video company. It's about a particular Mau Mau Freedom Fighter who was never able to get an education and so tries to seek one when he is in his 80's. The movie has flashbacks to what he went through, including having brutal beatings and losing a large part of his hearing via awful methods. I think it's a really good movie, so I highly recommend it.
I think this is a very uplifting article and i'm confident that the Mau Mau will win the suit, i'm surprised that the British are fighting it,if they want to seem like the good imperialists and come on is there any such thing? they should pay them and walk away.
